Hear from Theo Taylor on the Impact of Airstudio for Volume Photography Studios
Hi, I'm Theo! I joined the team as an intern in late 2024 and am now a senior software engineer here at Airstudio. I work all over our stack – backend, frontend, and mobile – and I enjoy the fast-paced environment we have here!

What's a "simple" request from studios that's actually complex to solve?
“Remove duplicate subjects from a subject group” sounds like a simple request, but was actually quite tricky to solve. Nicknames and typos, especially, make it too difficult to simply match names or emails and figure out duplicate subjects. It’s not easy to determine whether Mike Smith is the same student as Michael Smith who might also be using a different parent’s email. We decided on using AI to score how likely two accounts are the same person, and let the studio have the final say.
What's something you've worked on recently that you're proud of?
I’m proud of our Google Calendar integration. Airstudio replaces a lot of tools, but Google Calendar isn’t one anyone’s giving up. Cleanly syncing into Google Calendar means studios can keep track of their scheduled events without losing the calendar habits they already have.
Where do you see the biggest opportunity for studios?
Studios come to Airstudio having previously used all sorts of tools and workflows, and one of the biggest things we can offer is not forcing them to throw out the way they’ve always done things. Instead of telling a studio “this is how it works now,” we either build their workflow as an option, or we find a solution that works for them and ends up helping other studios too. Studios coming together with new ideas and solutions ultimately make Airstudio the powerful platform it is.
