Retake Day: Protect Your Revenue and Say "Cheese"

Every volume photographer knows the retake day regulars:

  • The No-Show

  • “I didn’t like my smile”

  • A Hair Situation

  • A Wardrobe Issue

  • Etc…

Retakes are part of the job. Losing money on them doesn't have to be. Here are five ways studios can make the most of retake day in Airstudio.

1. Price the retake by its reason

In Airstudio, each resit reason has two switches: charge the session fee again, and add an extra resit fee on top. "Photographer error" can be free. "Changed my mind about the outfit" can cost something. It stays fair to families and fair to you.

2. Turn free sessions into upgrade opportunities

You decide whether free-package subjects can book another free session for a resit, pay a set fee (like $25), or upgrade to a paid package. A retake request becomes a chance to upsell.

3. Set different rules for different schools

Set a studio-wide default, then override it for a specific organization or subject group. Seniors and kindergartners don't need the same retake policy.

4. Let the policy explain itself

The wording families see at booking and in confirmation emails is generated automatically from your settings. Expectations are clear before anyone sits down, so there are fewer "but I didn't know" disputes.

5. Use retake reasons as data

Every resit asks the family for a reason. If "glare" keeps coming up at one school, change the lighting setup next year. If blinks spike, add an extra frame per subject.

Retakes happen. With the right policies, the do-over pays for itself.
